Konjska konjarica

Došla nam je zapoved od svetloga cara
Da se saki junak zapisati mora.
Saki otec, mati, mora sinka dati,
Kaj budu morali k cesaru jahati.
Saki otec, mati, imali su sinka,
Samo nej imela Radović 'dovica.
Nek je samo mela tri jedine ćerke,
Tri jedine ćerke, svoju velko žalost.
„Nikaj, mama, nikaj, zutra vam bu sejem,
Zutra vam bu sejem v pisani Lendavi.
Tam vi kup'te meni vranića konjića,
Koga bum jahala do svetloga cara.“
„Dobro jutro, Bog daj, gospon svetli cesar!“
„Dobro jutro, moji junaki konjari!“
Svako jutro rano v štalici sfućkava,
V štalici sfućkava, konjića sčesava:
„Konji, moji konji, svi četiri šargi,
Devet let vas hranim, već vas duže nemrem.
Pričel mi je cvetek na prsej cvetati,
Pričeli su mene junaki spoznati.“
Cesar ju je sam dal pred sebe dozvati,
Pred njim se morala do gologa sleći.
„Do ve si mi bila moj povolen sluga,
Od vezda pak budeš moja draga ljubav.
Do ve si mi bila konjska konjarica,
Od vezda mi budeš moja grličica.“

The emperor issues an order that a young man from each family must surrender to serve him.
Misfortune that Radović the Widow had no son, but three daughters instead.
One of the daughters dressed as a young man and went to serve the emperor as a stable-boy.
After nine years, she bid her horses adieu because of her blooming bosom that had started to attract the men.
Hearing rumours, the emperor summoned her and ordered her to undress in front of him, and then said,
“You’ve been a good servant till now. As of today, you shall be my dear lover.”
