Prodana ljuba

Đurek je bil tužen da je vnogo dužen.
Njega su dolžniki naglo potirjali,
On si je pak mislil kaj ve začel bode.
Kaj ve začel bode, kaj ve prodal bode,
On si je pak hotel majko prodavati.
On si je pak hotel majko prodavati.
Njega su susedi počeli karati:
„Nahaj, Đuro, nahaj, majko prodavati!
Ako majko prodaš drugo več ne dobiš.
Rajše si ti prodaj svojo drago ljubo:
Ako ljubo prodaš, drugo nazaj dobiš.“
„Čuješ, mila, čuješ, zutra ti bo sejem,
Zutra ti bo sejem v pisani Lendavi.“
Dok su dohajali do Lendavski mostov
Pred njega su stali dva mladi Turčini.
„Čuješ, junak, čuješ, prodaj svojo lubo;
Namo ti brojili, več bumo merili.“
Z jednom si je rokom ljubo Turkom daval,
Z drugom si je rukom suzice zbrisaval.

Đurek was troubled with his debts.
He wished to sell his old mother but his neighbours talked him out of it this saying:
“Don’t sell your mother, Đuro, you won’t get another one! Sell your dear lover instead; you’ll find another.”
Đuro took his sweetheart to the market where they met two young Turks with a generous offer.
Đuro held his sweetheart’s hand as he gave her away to the Turks
while tears poured from his eyes.
