Sunce zađe među dvema gorama,
Đuro spava među dvema ljubama,
Ej, haj, ružica, Đuro spava među dvema ljubama.
Jedna mu je na rukaj zaspala, druga mu je tiho govorila:
Ej, haj, ružica, "Zemi mene, Đuro gospodine. "
"Vera neću, gizdava divojka, jel ti imaš brata srditoga.
Ej, haj, ružica, jel ti imaš brata srditoga.»
Onda išla u šumu zelenu, premetala listek i travicu,
Ej, haj, ružica, dok je našla kaču jadovaču.
«Pušćaj, kača, jada i čemera, da napojim brata srditoga,
Ej, haj, ružica, da napojim brata srditoga.»
Njezin bratec žeden z vojske jaše."Na, pij, bratec, crlenoga vina!"
Ej, haj, ružica, dok se napil, mam je s konja opal.
Onda išla k Đuri gospodinu: "Zemi mene, Đuro gospodine,
Ej, haj, ružica, ja već nemam brata srditoga."
„Vera neću, gizdava divojka, ti bi mene, kak si svega brata.
Ej, haj, ružica, ti bi mene, kak si svega brata.»

Đuro was sleeping between two girls.
One of them said, “Đuro, take me as your wife!”
Đuro refused because of her nasty brother.
The girl went to the woods, got poison from a serpent, and returned home to greet her brother with a deadly drink - poison infused wine.
Brother took a sip and dropped dead.
The girl went back to Đuro and repeated her proposal,
saying she no longer had a nasty brother.
Đuro replied: “Oh, no! I won’t marry you for you’d do away with me
the same way as your brother.”
