Urodila šenica belica, nju mi žanje,
Nju mi žanje, dever, nevestica.
Cel dan, cel dan žanju, reči ne govore,
Progovara, progovara, dever nevestici:
„Alaj, alaj, nevo, što si tak turobna?“
„ Kako ne bi, kako ne bi, turobna ja bila?
Već je, već je evo devet godin dana kak sam pošla,
Kak sam pošla za tvog braca Pavla.
Dovezla sam devet blazin' novih, ni tri noćce,
Ni tri noćce, na njih spala nisam.
Ni tri, ni tri noćce na njih spala nisam,
Već iz sela, već iz sela prelepa devojka.“
"Ćuti, ćuti, moja, ti mlada nevesta,
Ja pošaljem, ja pošaljem braca u livadu.
Ja pošaljem braca u livadu,
A ti legni, a ti legni na svoju postelju.“
Kad je, kad je bilo noći u polnoći,
A kad eto, a kad eto iz sela devojke.
Čižmom, čižmom lupa, suknjom podšripljuje:
„Otvaraj mi, otvaraj mi, dragi Pavle, vrata!“
Na to, na to se je bratec rasrdio,
Pa izvadi, pa izvadi sablju od bedrice.
Udario svoga brata dragu,
Udario, udario, dragu po pojasu.
Tako, tako ju je milo udario,
Da na sablji, da na sablji čedo izvadio.

A young wife was reaping wheat with her brother-in-law.
After a whole day in silence, he asked why she was so sad.
"Nine years have passed since I married your brother, Pavel.
It’s not I who’s been sleeping on the linen I brought with my dowry,
but a beautiful maiden from the village.”
“Say no more. I’ll send my brother to the field and you lie in your
bed freely.”
At midnight, the young girl from the village was heard banging on the door, calling Pavel.
In anger Pavel’s brother stabs the young girl to death and realises he’s also killed an unborn child.
