Igral se je kralj s devojkom od večer do ranja,
Kad su se već naigrali, devojka plakala.
„Ne plač, mila, ne plač, draga, dam ti vernog slugu,
Dam ti svoga vernog slugu i četiri konja.“
„Kaj mi treba veran sluga, kad nemam gospona,
Kad ja nemam gospodina i srcu dragoga.“
Kralu se je zasenjalo da devojka vmrla;
On je rekel svome slugi nek zapreže konje.
„Potiraj je malo bole, da idemo dale!“
Kad su došli malo dale, čuli su zvonare.
„Mili moji, vi zvonari, komu to zvonite?“
„Jednoj mladoj devojčici ka v žalosti vmrla.“
„Potiraj je malo bole da idemo dale!“
Otišli su malo dale, našli su grobare.
„Mili moji, vi grobari, komu grob kopate?“
„Jednoj mladoj devojčici ka v žalosti vmrla.“
„Potiraj je malo bole da idemo dale!“
Kad su došli malo dale, sreli su trogare.
„Mili moji, vi trogari, koga to nosite?“ „
Jednu mladu devojčicu ka v žalosti vmrla.“
„Mili moji, vi trogari, denite ju doli,
Da ju vidim svojma očma, kakoga je lica.“
Premoknole njegve oči, nabrusil je sablju,
Nabrusil je svoju sablju, prebol si je srce.
„Ti si za me smrt podnesla, bodem i ja za te.“

A king was having his way with a young girl from dusk till dawn.
After play, the young girl was in tears.
The king promised her a servant and four horses.
The young girl refused saying she had no use for such gifts less her master and the onedear to her heart by her side.
The king dreamed the girl had died.
Realising the truth, his eyes filled with tears seeing her to the graveyard.
He sharpened his sword and stabbed himself in the heart saying: “You died for me, I die for you.”
